Katherine Davis Receives Beckman Young Investigator Award
The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation has selected Katherine Davis, Physics Graduate Program member and Assistant Professor of Chemistry, as one of eleven recipients of their prestigious Young Investigator Award. The award will fund her research on metalloenzymes, which are key proteins that incorporate metal ions to facilitate chemical reactions in all organisms. Metalloenzymes are inherently dynamic systems, and monitoring their reactions in real-time is technically challenging. She will develop and apply cutting-edge X-ray scattering and optical spectroscopic methodologies for the collection of data that reports on atomic motions and changes to the metal centers as a function of time, thereby enhancing the understanding of these essential machines.
