Research Interests
My research takes a physics approach to understanding memory and computation in brains and machines. At one level, this means bringing techniques and formalism from theoretical physics and mathematics to tackle problems in artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and neuroscience. At a deeper level, this involves a style of doing science, in which certain types of questions are asked, and a “simplest nontrivial example” strategy is taken to develop an understanding of challenging complex phenomena.
